Grammar
Contextualised grammar and punctuation objectives are taught as part of the Read to Write units.
Further explicit grammar sessions are planned by teachers, informed by our Non-negotiables Document of key grammar skills by year group, to ensure children master the most important grammar knowledge and skills for their year group. Any gaps in these key skills from previous year groups are plugged to unblock learning and accelerate progress. With these building blocks in place, childen are in a strong position to apply grammar in a range of exciting contexts.
We use our knowledge of the mastery process to give children the opportunity to practise fluency, reasoning and application of grammar skills. We provide all children the opportunities to review, learn, practise and apply their grammar learning throughout the curriculum.
After careful assessment, teachers provide daily sentence work to further improve grammar, punctuation and spelling accuracy, along with increasing the children's knowledge of a variety of sentence structures.
Fortnightly grammar homework is set.
