Why do we need to come to school?
- To learn new things and extend my knowledge on things I already know
- It’s the law
- Being part of a group helps us to get on well with others, form relationships and make friends
- To be part of and enjoy educational visits and they help us to learn about the world outside of school
- Taking part in clubs and teams is fun and helps us to play and work together and improve what we do
- Being at school every day improves your chances of getting a job or going to college and university when you get older. It provides you with valuable life skills.
- Stops you from being bored
- It could help you have better quality sleep at night because you have been active and busy

What happens if you don’t come to school?
- Children don’t learn as well and will get behind with their learning
- Your parents could get in trouble for not sending you to school
- You might get bored at home and lose interest in some of the things that make you happy
- You won’t get to see your friends
- You will be missing out on opportunities to try and enjoy new things that you didn’t know you would like or things that will develop your confidence
- You don’t get to make as many friends
- You miss out on special days, celebrations, educational visits, school clubs and team events

What is Good Attendance?
Good attendance at school is 95%. If your attendance is below 95% our Family Liaison Office may contact you to discuss how we can help you improve your child’s attendance.
- 98% attendance means 4 school days missed
- 95% attendance means 10 school days missed
- 90% attendance means 19 school days missed
- 80% attendance means 38 school days missed
Good attendance at school is vital if children are to achieve their full potential. If they are not in school they are not learning.
If your child arrives after 8:45am they will be marked as late. This is in line with our Attendance Policy and Procedures. Poor attendance (and punctuality) not only impacts on a child’s progress and achievement but also on their self-esteem and well-being.
The habit of being a regular, punctual attender at school will stand your child in good stead for the future, particularly in the world of work.

Every Day Counts Reward: 5/5 Attendance Counts
Every Friday, the children have the chance to be entered into our “Five for Five” reward and win an Attendance Counts goody bag. If your child attends for five-full days and is on time every morning, they are entered into a raffle for an opportunity to win a goody bag of their choice. This is awarded in our Friday celebration assembly. They have to be in to win!
Not Sure what to do? Please read our Punctuality Poster and Unwell Child posters below for more guidance.

If your child’s attendance drops below 95% you will be invited into school, so we can support you to improve their attendance. If it drops further, you will be invited to an Attendance Panel, as we must work together to get every child in school every day and on time, to maximise their learning.
