The pupil premium grant is funding to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England, and if you qualify for free school meals, your school will automatically receive pupil premium funding for your child.
However, if your child is not eligible for free school meals (not Universal Free School meals), they can be entitled to pupil premium funding if they are:
- children looked after by local authorities, referred to as looked-after children
- children previously looked after by a local authority or other state care, referred to as previously looked-after children
