As a school J H Godwin, support all young carers. We can do this by referring you to the Young Carers Service.
Young carers is an organisation that supports children aged six to eighteen who care for a family member who they live with who may have any of the following:
support young carers with their emotional health and wellbeing
- Mental ill health
- Substance misuse
- Learning disabilities
- Physical ill heath
- Physical disability
The service aims to:
- develop young carers to be better equipoped with the life skills and resilience they need
- give young carers a strong voice to be heard
- support young carers with their education, career choices or aspirations
- help young carers care for themselves and show them ways or places they can go to do this
Alongside one-to-one support, the service provides group sessions so young carers can engage with people in a similar position to them.
What can you expect:
One to One Support
- You will be allocated a dedicated worker who will look after you while you are with the service. This will be the person you can turn to when you want some help or guidance
- You will be helped to say and share what your needs are and supported to manage them
- You will be helped to identify things in your life you would like to change or develop
- You will be med either in school, home or out in the community, whichever is best for you
Group Sessions
- You will be offered the chance to join group sessions where you can meet other young carers
- Sessions will have a theme each time, such as building your confidence, practical skills like cooking or staying safe, creative or sports-based sessions, time outside and time to try new things or experience new stuff. The service will do its very best to make sure you feel relaxed and enjoy them
- Sessions will take place in different locations near you depending on the activity or the venues the service uses. You can be helped to get to them if that’s what you need
- Sessions will be run online using Zoom to bring everyone together when you can’t meet face-to-face
- The service believes you have the potential to reach greatness and it’s here to help you on that path
